My modest attempt to solve the kidney filtration mystery…
Since I had the Indian food at Mumbai last week, I’ve been feeling amazing. Besides feeling amazing, my kidneys have been filtering regularly since. I have to admit that I am a bit lost trying in figuring out how kidney filtration works. In order to have a better understanding of the situation I decided to rewind the film of my life a bit, and reflect on my actions and the nutrition I’ve been exposed to for the past weeks. Maybe that way I can get a better understanding of how kidney filtration has been working for me.
- On October 7th I started a nine-day dry-fast. After the dry fast was over, I had liquid intake of food for a day and a half, then I had raw meals for a half day.
- At the end of the dry-fast, my kidneys were heavily filtrating. On the third day after the fast was over, I started eating steamed vegetables with quinoa. The filtration stopped. After having cooked meals and raw juices for the rest of the week, I had my regular 36 hour fast on a Sunday, then I had a raw juice and had cooked meal on Monday.
- Tuesday was my first day working at my new job. I worked pretty intensely over 12 hours, dry-fasting at the same time. After my shift was over, I walked around the block for 15 minutes or so, then went straight to bed.
- On Wednesday and Thursday I had amazing juices with nettle and eatable flowers on top of all the other good organic fruits and vegetables I could get. I have to admit that I went once again over the board with the juicing and eating on those two days. I think I ate more than I needed to.
- On Friday work was canceled. I dry- fasted the entire day, and aimed to have a mellow day. I’ve read, and walked a lot on that day.
- Saturday I went to BA Verde for lunch, then I went to Mumbai for dinner. Since then I have been feeling amazing and my kidney have been filtering pretty intensely.
- The weather has been gorgeous yesterday and today. It’s to the point where it feels like it’s springtime here in Buenos Aires. I am mentioning this, because the change in weather may also affect kidney filtration and detox in general.
- Yesterday I had two juice sessions. One with carrot, orange, apple, ginger and garlic. For the second juice, I had access to a big amount of organic and extremely fresh parsley. I juiced it along with celery, kiwi, apple, orange, garlic, ginger, and asparagus.
- For dinner I prepared some vegetarian raw sushi rolls with avocado, the nicer top parts of the asparagus I had not juiced earlier, cherry tomatoes, celery, chia seeds, sesame seeds, spiriluna, maca, wakane seaweed, hijiki seaweed. All that good stuff chopped (except for the wakane and hihiki) and rolled in nori seaweeds. I was also able to get a hold of blueberries I had for dessert with some nuts, honey, and shredded dried coconut.
- Today I have been dry-fasting all day, and I had my second day at work. I was way more efficient than on my first day, and I got way more pleasure out of working. My kidneys have been filtering heavily each time I went to the bathroom, even though it was a fasting day.
More I think about what my body went through from October 7th to October 31st, more it becomes difficult for me to pin point what made me feel tired at one point, and what has been making me feel fantastic since last Saturday. I think it’s a combination of a lot of different factors. Even though I don’t have a precise formula to make my kidneys filter, I can sense that some of my actions have been having a promoting effect on kidney filtration. Here’s a list of practices which I believe favor kidney filtration.
- Dry-fasting (especially the period which follows the dry-fast my kidneys tend to filter heavily.)
- Astringent fruits
- Asparagus
- Parsley
- Dry-brushing (with a focus on the actual kidneys)
- Hot/Cold alternating showers
- Mellow exercising (yoga walking, jogging, bike riding)
- Resting ( I think this is key. Having a good night sleep and be relaxed throughout the day seem to help greatly.)
If I were to zoom out a bit to better understand my relationship to kidney filtration since I am aware that it exists, I would say that things have been improving tremendously for me. Here’s a brief summary of my personal history.
- I introduced a diet largely dominated by raw food to my life in April 2016. I also went trough radical changes by cutting down on processed sugars, cereals, animal products, alcohol, and more.
- I did not know anything about kidney filtration until late May 2017.
- When I started monitoring my urine for the first time in May 2017, I realized that I was not filtering at all.
- I augmented the intake of astringent fruits in my diet and started to apply hot compresses to my kidneys with those hot/cold pads that you can get at any pharmacy.
- The result was immediate, with the help of the hot compresses, My kidneys started to filter.
- At first my kidneys would only filter during three to five visits to the bathroom a week. The rest of the time my urine would be crystal clear.
- It seems like my longer dry-fasting periods helped my kidneys to clear themselves. During the longer dry-fasting periods I experienced moments with pain on my right kidney. The pain would be on and off, but always on the right side. Later on it was the turn of left kidney to experience some pain. After longer periods of dry-fasting, I was able to get rid of highly acidic and opaque waste material. To the point where the waste was able to tint the glass of the jar I was collecting the urine into.
- After two seven and a half, and one nine-day dry fasting periods, all pain from kidneys disappeared, My kidneys have been filtering regularly since. Now the number of times my kidneys do not filter are inferior to the number of time they do filter.
- For the past four months or so I haven’t been applying the hot compresses to my kidneys, yet they’ve been able to to filter on a regular basis.
Unfortunately I have no personal data on my kidney filtration prior to May 2017, but the progress I’ve made from May 2017 to December 2017 in terms of kidney filtration has been phenomenal.
The Month of October
The Positive: I was able to dry-fast for a total of 14 days out of the 31 days that form the month of October. For about three weeks I haven’t eaten out, nor have consumed animal products until I had Indian food at Mumbai. I was able to rest, and sunbath on a regular basis. Springtime being here makes me feel really good. My metabolism tend to go up when it gets warmer.
The Challenging: The uncertainty of my professional situation, and my financial sustainability in the long run have been difficult topics to confront. I am still trying to adapt to a new country, and establish a new life for myself. My move to Argentina has been way more challenging than what I was imagining it to be before departure. I also have to admit that the changes in my life-style completely changed me in regards to my goals, desires, and motivation in life. Not only I need to adapt to a new country and a new culture, but I am also trying to adapt to my new self. I have the hope that everything that has been happening since I’ve started the For A Better Monday journey in April 2016 is happening for a good reason.
