Understanding Physiological Principles – For A Better Monday Style

Understanding Physiological Principles

My Understanding of The Big Picture

As of May 2018, it has now been exactly 25 months that I have started this journey as an attempt to change my lifestyle for a healthier one. To make this wonderful journey possible, I used several different practices that I named starting points. I also like to refer to them as seeds for change, in order to express the idea of a small habit being able to grow over time into something that can make a huge difference in our lives. Call them starting points or seeds for change, I believe that all these practices I’ve been embracing, have ended up being extremely beneficial for me in order to grow into a healthier person. There is one in particular, I believe it to be a bit different and possibly the most important one. This one consists of understanding some of the most important the physiological principles of the human body.

Learning more about the physiological mechanisms of my body not only has been helping me to to be more knowledgeable on the subject, but more importantly, it has been a tremendous motivating factor to embrace and sustain my starting point practices. This knowledge has been helping me in understanding the role these practices play in the big picture of my body healing itself and becoming a healthier and better performing entity. In this post I am going to try to explain in my own words my understanding of how I believe the lymphatic system works.

The Cell

The human body is made of an extremely large number of cells. These cells have a number of needs in order to stay healthy and accomplish the work they need to to. They need to be nourished, and since they all fulfill a function and perform tasks, they produce waste. They are in a way a minuscule version of ourselves. Cells have membranes, and its through these membranes that the exchange with the outside environment is made possible. In order for the cell to be able to evacuate the produced waste, the outer environment of the cell needs to be more alkaline in pH than its inner environment. In other words, if the outer environment is more acidic, then it becomes very difficult for the cell to evacuate its waste material. Consequently, not being able to evacuate waste material could result in having all kinds of problems at the cell level first. From there, an entire group of cells, then a whole organ could be negatively impacted and this situation can turn into what is commonly called a disease in the modern western medical lexicon.Continue reading

Slightly Changing my Diet

For the past two weeks I’ve been having a hybrid diet. I’ve been juicing six days a week at home, and the rest of the time I’ve been eating at Spring which is an all you can eat vegetarian buffet. This week I have started to reduce the number of times I go to Spring in comparison to the previous weeks and replaced some of my meals at Spring by some mono meals prepared at home. Mono meals of avocado, banana, or grapes tend to work great for me. The days when I’ve been having a juice and a mono meal for the entire day were amazing in terms of the ease in digestion. It almost feels like there’s no digestion.

After a month of including some cooked vegetarian meals to my diet I have the sensation that I am reaching the end of a cycle. Although delicious, I am becoming less exited to eat abundantly at Spring, and most importantly I have lost the great hunger I used to have during the previous weeks. I think it’s time to reduce even more the days I eat at Spring and increase the days I have raw plant based meals at home. The reason why I don’t want to completely stop going to Spring is because during the past month or so I have gained some muscular mass, I feel stronger physically, and my productivity and my desire to do things have been all very high.

The week did not start very well for me

On Mondays Spring is closed, and I was missing produce to make my own juice at home. I went to this place where they have good tasting cold pressed juices named Juice Up. I ended up having three bottles of their delicious green juices. Although their recipes are right on in terms of taste, I think that it’s a shame that they are not using organic produce. I am wondering if having a non organic cold pressed juice does my body more good or bad.Continue reading

Keeping it Up

It has been an other amazing week of me feeling great.

  • Dry-fast on Sunday
  • On Monday, I went to this new place named Gratitude on “calle Dorrego” to break my fast. They have some plant based food options, along with delicious juices. Their pricing is on the affordable side, the portions are huge, and the produce they use to prepare the food seem to be of extreme good quality. Although I suspect most of the produce they use to be traditionally grown, the quality offered for the peso is pretty impressive.
  • On Tuesday, I ate at home, pursuing the oil and nut free, raw plant based diet.
  • On Wednesday, I had my third salt flush. OMG! On my two previous salt flush attempts, I only had to go to the bathroom twice at each session. This time around, I actually understood why this practice is called a salt flush. I ended up going to the bathroom seven or eight times. At the end I had the feeling that my entire digestive system was completely emptied out. After the digestive tsunami was over, I felt kind of tired and took a nap for a couple of hours. When I woke up I wasn’t feeling all that great. I made myself a delicious green juice, and went out for a walk to “El Rosedad de Palermo” at sunset. A few minutes after making it to “El Rosedad”, something amazing happened to me internally. I started to experience an unprecedented mind clarity. I ended up walking for about two hours, the weather was perfect and the park beautiful. The combination of the salt flush, the nap, the green juice, and the walk in a beautiful setting, had taken me to a place where I felt extremely serene, in peace, and inspired. I decided to not eat solid food for the rest of the day, so the mind clarity could sustain itself as long as it could.

Jamming

I made it back home around 9:00PM. I had not taken my phone with me. As I took a look to the screen saver of my smartphone, I saw that I had several messages from the same number. Obviously someone was trying to get a hold of me.Continue reading

All of a sudden I started to feel amazing

It now has been over 14 days that I am solely eating at home a raw plant based diet. I’ve been avoiding nuts as well. This week has been very different than the previous one, since my energy levels, and productivity were high. My morale also got boosted, partially due to the fact that I finally got started on a new work project as a freelancer. I can say that I’ve been quite active this week. Besides working, I had four workout sessions instead of three including a 30 minute jog each time. I went out for a long walk every day from my apartment in Colegiales to the Parque 3 de ferbero. This represents a daily shirtless walk of at least two hours under the sun.Continue reading

Back to Eating 100% Raw/Plant Based

During the entire week I had all my meals at home. Everything I had was raw, and plant based except for a couple times I had some delicious comb honey. My energy levels were surprisingly low. I also had lower motivation and lower morale than usual. The project I was supposed to start working on got delayed one more week, this definitely affected my overall morale a bit.

Despite eating clean, I haven’t been feeling amazing

During the entire week I’ve been eating as clean as possible, but yet I haven’t been feeling great. I also noticed that my kidneys stopped filtering all together. I had some cellular waste in my urine during my weekly dry-fast on Sunday and Monday, but the rest of the week, my urine was crystal clear. This made me reflect on my current situation and patterns I’ve been following. I’ve been fasting only one day a week for about two months now. I’ve also been alternating periods when I eat 100% raw/plant based diet at home, and periods when I still eat 100% raw/plant based at home in combination with eating out cooked meals. When I go from eating raw to eating cooked meals containing or not animal products, my energy levels tend to sky rocket for a day or two.Continue reading

Challenging Start of the New Year

This is my first journal entry of the year. The transition from 2017 to 2018 has been a bit rough for me. I had to move out from my previous apartment a day before Christmas. A day before new year’s eve I was announced that a member of my closest family had been hospitalized since early November. My family did not want to inform me since I am far away with limited resources. Thank to God the situation is back to a more normal state now, and no one is in the hospital anymore. I’ve also been experiencing other types of family related issues, with different members of my family. I don’t want to share the details here, but both situations have been affecting my morale in a very negative way for the past weeks.

I’ve been having a hard time adapting to a more comfortable environment.

It took me almost three weeks to adapt to my new living situation. It’s very intriguing to me, because my current place is so much more comfortable than the previous place I lived in. Continue reading

Some New Observations on Kidney Filtration

As I already mentioned it in my journal entry of December 20th, my kidneys had stopped filtering during my move from my old apartment to the new one. I took two and a half days to move, because I wanted to transport all my belongings by foot. Friday night the move was over. Saturday morning I did the check out from the old apartment, and had a day during which I was able to eat plenty of food. Sunday was my dry-fasting day. I decided to do a complete fast, where I kept from doing any intellectual work, and interact with electronic devices. In addition, I had plenty of sleep along with a great opportunity to sunbath on the roof of the building where I currently live.Continue reading

Moving

I am in the process of moving into a new place. I decided to move all my belongings by foot from the old apartment to the new one. At first I wasn’t sure if it will be a total waste of time, or on the contrary this out of the ordinary little adventure could make me experience something different. The new and old apartments are 1.1 km / 0.7 mile apart from one an other. The distance separating the two places represents about 15 min of walk. So far I’ve made seven trips back and forth. I have 90% of my belongings in the new apartment already. Today I am going to clean the old apartment so I can do the check out with the old landlord, and recuperate my deposit tomorrow. The new apartment is excellent. It’s not facing the street. I was able to sleep like a baby for the past couple of nights.Continue reading

Juice-Fast Failure

After my usual Sunday dry-fast, I got started with a juice-fast on Monday. I wasn’t successful at it. I had a delicious red juice all day long, but around 10:00PM, I started to feel lightheaded and hungry. I decided to listen to my body and not pursue with the juice-fast. As much as I love and feel comfortable with dry-fasting, juice and water fasting do not seem to work for me, at the moment. They make me feel as if I’m always missing something. Whereas with dry-fasting, I feel content and in control.Continue reading

Changing My Fasting Pattern

As we start the month of December I have decided to switch gears and change my fasting pattern. For the past month and a half, I’ve been dry-fasting between three to four days a week. During that period the actual pattern helped me in being more productive, and I saw a considerable increase in my kidney filtration abilities. Before getting started with the new pattern I intend to do an intermittent fast today during the day, and eat plenty at night. Tomorrow Saturday, I am planning on eating and drinking plenty as well. On Sunday, I will start a 36 hour dry-fast until Monday afternoon.

Starting Monday I want to introduce the new fasting-pattern. A 100% juice fast. The idea is to only consume juice and coconut oil for x amount of consecutive days. I am planning on avoiding all solid food. I haven’t decided how long I am going to fast this way. As usual I expect my body to guide me. Continue reading
