Seven Day Dry-Fast – Debriefing

This is the day after I’ve completed my second 180 hour dry-fast. I wanted to list what I have observed and learned during this dry-fast experience.

  • Fasting feels like practicing a sport to me. Each time I feel like I’m getting better at it, and getting more out of it.
  • I was impressed how fast my body was able to recover from the cold I had on the first days. The cold forced me to take it easy on the first half of the fast. Taking things a bit easier, could be a good approach to get more out of a fast, if my focus is more on detox and healing, rather than performance.
  • I was able to sun bath almost everyday after I recovered from the cold. I could observe that the combination of fasting and sun bathing worked really well together. The exposure to the sun was able to give to my body the spark it needed to kick start the system, and feel energized all day.
  • Once again, this fast was like a trip. I got excited towards the end to complete it.  It felt extremely good to be on that trip, and a part of me wanted to stay there. It felt like, I was a better version of myself. Especially during the second half of the fast. I could accomplish tasks with more joy. The different activities I will engage in during the day, would transition nicely. I didn’t need that much sleep, and was able to be productive the second I would wake up.
  • I think I started with the solid foods a day or two too early. After breaking the fast with lemon juice, coconut oil, and a green juice, I was still feeling the effects of the fast. It’s only after eating the avocado rolls that I started feeling a bit heavy and tired. By the end of yesterday I was feeling really tired. And this morning at 7:30AM when I woke up, I was feeling extremely tired. Next time, after a longer fast like this one, I am going to try to switch from a dry-fast to a sort of a juice fast for a couple of days. I also think that it will help to consume more green vegetable juices, rather than fruit based juices. I am just going to use a green apple, and maybe an orange to give a bit of sweetness, but for the rest I am going stick to green vegetables.
  • During this dry-fast I only had one bowel movement. It was on the fifth day, at night time. I woke up to go to the bathroom. Since I’ve completed the fast, no bowel movements yet.

I also have been monitoring my urine during the entire fasting period. At the beginning of the fast, I wasn’t filtering much, the urine was very much just transparent.

As I progressed with the fast, the urine started to get cloudier, with suspended semi transparent material. After resting the urine in a glass for an hour the material will gather together and stay suspended near the bottom of the glass. On the seventh day of the fast something very interesting happened. This was the day before I broke my fast. I experience a very heavy kidney filtration. The same kind that had coming out during my last days after I had the lemon juice during my previous seven day dry-fast. This time around, I had not broken my fast yet, that my urine was charged with a lot of material. If I’d let the urine rest in a glass, it would turn pink-white. Impossible to see through. It would get to the point where the material in the urine would tint the glass. Washing the glass afterwards took some effort, because the material was heavily encrusted onto the glass. Since I started filtering this way, each time I go to urinate, I am having the same result. I’ve been getting rid of a lot of nasty things for the past 36 hours. One thing I learned, is that heavy filtering wasn’t necessarily triggered by the intake of the lemon juice and breaking the fast.
It could just be that after the seventh day of dry-fasting, heavy elimination takes place. Or the body needs a a certain time of dry-fasting to reach a state where it can eliminate heavily through the urine. This encourages me to fast more, and for longer periods of time. It really feels like the body can go deeper in healing with longer periods of dry-fasting.

This last seven day dry-fasting experience increased my love for fasting in general. I always had some sort of a pleasure fasting, but there were some difficult moments, and I would be hesitant to schedule fasts when I had important social commitments. Now I feel almost in love with fasting. If the world was divided into two parts. The fasting and the non fasting areas. Today, I feel like I want to live in the fasting part of the world. I am already nostalgic of my fasting experience. I feel like it’s changing my entire outlook on life. Fasting has always been beneficial to me, but this time around it was even more elevating and liberating. I feel like fasting can bring me where I really belong. A place where I can reach my full potential. I can’t wait for my next fasting experience.
