34 Hour Rest

Last week I have been eating everyday except for Sunday. As I am writing this post it’s 1:00PM Monday, and I am still fasting. I usually go about my day regularly while fasting. On this fast I wanted to try something I had not done before. I decided to not do anything at all during my fast: not connect to internet, not work on my blogs, not record music, not touch my cell phone, not read. On Saturday night I was still exhausted from moving all my belongings from the old apartment to the new one by foot. All week I have been eating plenty at home and outside of home. On Saturday, I was able to nourish myself all day. I started fasting on Saturday night/ Sunday Morning around 2:00AM. I went to bed and woke up the next morning, maybe afternoon? Since I wasn’t allowing myself to touch any electronic device, I did not know what time it was.

By observing the sun I could guess that it was around 1:00PM or so. I did some breathing exercises, light yoga, and more breathing exercises. I then went on exploring the new building I now live in. It has a tiny pool on the roof with spots especially designed for sunbathing. This is a dream come true for me. I went back to the apartment, picked up my yoga mat, a towel, and I put on my swim suit. I then went back to the roof and napped for hours under the sun. When I came back to the apartment, it must have been around 5:00PM. I went on and took an other nap this time on the ultra comfortable soft but firm bed of the new apartment. When I woke up, the sun had gone down already, but the sky wasn’t completely dark yet. I went back to the 10th floor’s common area where the pool is located, to watch the beautiful Buenos Aires skyline. My initial idea was to stay home, and go back to bed as soon as possible in order to rest as much as I could. Since many were celebrating Christmas, people living in the neighborhood started to fire Argentinian BBQ locally known as “Parilla” left and right. The air quality on my balcony dropped considerably. When I am fasting I get even more sensitive to the quality of air.

Quest for Fresh Air

I decided to ride my bike to Palermo to have access to clean fresh air. My strategy consisted of going to a neighborhood full of restaurants in which near to all will probably be closed for Christmas Eve. Since hypothetically no restaurant would be open, I assumed that the air had greater chances to be clean in Palermo than in Colegiales. Well, I wasn’t totally wrong, but I wasn’t totally right either. Pretty much all restaurants were closed for the night, but the smell of “Parilla” (ARG BBQ) was omnipresent. I decided to pursue my quest by going to the previous neighborhood I used to live in: Belgrano. I rode my beach cruiser all the way from the heart of Palermo Soho to Barrancas de Belgrano. I took Goritti up to Dorrego, and Cap Gral Ramon Freire all the way up to Echeverria. I crossed the train tracks, I then cruised east to the Barrancas de Belgrano. I wasn’t mistaken, the air was incredibly clean at the “Barrancas”. The park was almost completely empty of people except for a couple speaking Chinese with their two kids, and two men speaking Arabic sitting on a bench. I stayed there for about a half an hour and did some of my breathing exercises. There is something special about this place. Even during regular days when it’s busy with traffic and bus stops all around, the air, most of the time feels clean. It’s probably because a good portion of the park is elevated. I am suspecting the area getting fresh air directly from the river. Also there are several beautiful centenary trees that must also help to improve the quality of air. With my new location I am a bit more distant from the actual park, but it is still at a walking distance.

Information Withdrawals

Once back home, my initial plan was to to go to bed directly. My adored soccer team TRABZONSPOR had played their last game before the winter break during the day. I decided to cheat on my electronic-fast, and went and checked out the score of the game. I didn’t watch the highlights. I just took a look at what players were on the starting eleven, who scored the goals, and who were the three substitutes who got in during the game. It was about a quarter to midnight. I then went and started to check the streaming stats for my music project Black Sea Storm. I soon realized that I was about to spoil my fast of not doing anything for a day, so I disconnected from the web, and went straight to bed.

Negative Effects of Pool Water on my Scalp

I experienced some healing crisis while trying to fall asleep. I also think it was a mistake that I went into the tiny pool with a ton of chlorine earlier during the day. In addition to the healing crisis, my scalp and my face started to itch pretty intensely, keeping me from falling a sleep right away. Since I don’t wash my hair with shampoo anymore, my scalp through time was progressively able to balance itself, where it has been feeling very comfortable for the past year or so. I am guessing that the chemicals present in the pool water may have killed some of the fungi or bacteria that makes up the balance of my scalp. If you want to read about how I came about not washing my hair with shampoo anymore, you can check out one of my earlier posts named “Shampoo Quit Me”.

Adapting myself to a new environment has been a bit challenging so far

My new temporary place is in all regards, maybe except for its actual location a way better living situation than my old apartment. Even though everything is better and way more comfortable here, I am still going through an adaptation period. Moving all my belongings by foot has been a physically tiring experience, and I kind of needed some time to recover from it.  The real challenge lies in the fact that my routine and my daily good habits got a bit disorganized. I am actually able to sleep very well here, which is something that I had not experienced for the past six months. It’s a change that I think is going to be very beneficial for me. Being on the seventh floor and getting daylight all day is also an amazing thing. The balcony gets direct sunlight until 1:30PM. Later on during the day I can always go on the roof to sunbath. The Kitchen is spacious, and all appliances are new and working perfectly well. My life quality has improved tremendously since last Wednesday when I was handed the keys of the apartment for the fist time. Everything is so much better, yet it took me several days before being fully productive again with my projects. In early February I am going to have to move out from this beautiful apartment. I am hoping that I will able to adapt faster to the new environment I’ll be living in.
