The Importance of Quality Produce
This week in terms of food intake, I can easily say that I’ve been a bit all over the place. I dry-fasted on Sunday as usual, I ate out on Monday twice. I ate at home on Tuesday and Wednesday %100 raw plant based food. For the rest of the week I combined eating out and eating at home.
Alma Zen, my organic grocer are back from vacation. Although they are out of their arcade in Belgrano, they still do home delivery. I ordered a good amount of fruits and vegetables for the week. By Alma Zen being back in business, I think I learned a great deal about the difference between various products which are sold as organic. As I mentioned in my previous post, even though my current living situation is near perfect at the moment, I had a hard time adjusting to my new place and kick start the new year. One of the elements that had changed in my lifestyle was that people running Alma Zen were on summer vacation. Therefore I couldn’t get access to the produce they bring from the province of Buenos Aires three times a week. After a couple days of juicing and making salads with their produce, I was able to get a part of my energy levels back to where I had left a month ago.
Once again this little experiment comforts me in thinking that there are different grades of organic produce in quality, and they are not all equal in terms of nutritive values. With the fruits and vegetables I get from Alma Zen, I can almost feel that their products are rich in micro nutriments. I made a green juice with some celery, parsley, apples, oranges, and ginger. The combination of all the ingredients felt truly nourishing while having the actual juice. I was able to get a huge amount of satisfaction out of every sip of the beverage. Within an hour finishing my juice, I could feel my energy levels going up and feeling sharper mentally.
More Small Details on My Week
The weather during the week was hot and sunny. This allowed me to sunbath three times this week. I was able to jog and workout three times as well. This activity, in addition to my daily morning yoga routine and me walking pretty much everywhere made the week being full of activities promoting my attempt for a healthier living. Despite all the health promoting physical activities, my food intake as I mentioned at the beginning of the post wasn’t as ideal. Besides eating good quality plant based food at home, I went to eat out more than I usually do. In addition to having cooked meals, I also had some traditionally baked pastries and some coconut ice cream several times this week, which is something very unusual for me since I started this adventure in April 2016.
After a week like this one, I can sense a strong desire in me that wants to go back to a full raw and plant based diet. Now that Alma Zen are back in business, being on a complete raw plant based diet could bring me to a place where my diet is more aligned with my attempt for a healthier living. I actually welcome weeks like the one I just had, when I go a bit in excess with less appropriate food for my ultimate goal. I think that I learn as much from such periods of time as I learn during the weeks when I eat 100% raw plant based food. The weeks during which I allow myself the freedom to eat things that could be seen as unhealthy, I am amazed how the actual food becomes very quickly addictive. The good news is that I am at a point in my journey where as soon as I start going down what could be considered as the wrong path, my body tells me to come back to a plant based, mostly raw, whole food diet.
I believe that during the weeks that I am a bit in excess, make it so that I stick longer periods of time to a diet which is more adequate for me at my current situation. When I look at the big picture, I can see that I am definitely making progress towards what I consider being the right direction. Over the course of almost two years now, I was able to completely change my overall diet.
A New Freelancing Opportunity
Besides Alma Zen being back in business, an other good news is that my opportunity to work as a freelancer seems to be back. It’s a new project, so I don’t know much about the details as to how many hours I will be working. All I know is that I am starting Wednesday. I am excited, because I have noticed that during the months of December and January when there was no work for me, my mood and my fasting patterns were affected by the situation. I am hoping that working and generating money again will boost my morale. In addition, my work schedule will help me to organize my time in a more efficient way. With the past opportunity I had been working ten to twelve hours per day on Tuesdays and Fridays while dry-fasting. This situation allowed me to have a certain rhythm for the entire week. At times, I would feel a bit tired towards the end of a shift because of the intensity of work, but I think my overall schedule was very beneficial for me in all areas of my life.
Now that I have lost that actual rhythm, I realize once again how important it is to be active and generate income. Although I think I put an important effort into my own projects, since they are not generating income, and I don’t socialize while working on those projects, it almost does not feel like real work that I am producing. It’s a sad situation because my projects truly matter to me, and I actually find them way more challenging than the work I do to make a living. The perceived truth for me is that when an activity does not put food on the table, it does not fully satisfy my instinct for survival. The ideal situation would be of course to somehow generate income with my own projects.
