Alternating Raw and Cooked Food

It has now been over a month that I’ve been allowing myself some cooked food containing animal products. At home I’ve been eating quasi all raw except for quinoa. I’ve been eating out about three times a week for the last month. I was able to eat some red meat and seafood. My favorite restaurant for the month has been Mumbai, preparing to perfection some northern Indian dishes. I truly have been enjoying every bite of their food. Since eating more traditionally cooked food, I’ve been always feeling good the next day. I even think that having some animal origin food and Indian spices have been boosting my overall energy levels.Continue reading

Plunge into a Cheat-Meal Spree

Yesterday I was planning on breaking my 40 hour dry-fast around 3:00PM. I was able to get some work done in the morning, then I went to the “Barrancas de Belgrano “to sunbath and read. I knew I was going to break my fast soon, but I did not know with what type of food yet. I usually break my fast  with slow-pressed home made juices. Since it was a short fast, and lately I had been experimenting with new approaches to break my fast, I wanted to change a bit. The raw vegetarian option was to go to Buenos Aires Verde and have a salad from the menu of the day. If I were to allow myself some animal origin food, having  some seafood was the second option that came to my mind. Few days earlier I had spotted a Peruvian restaurant in “Barrio Chino” specialized in ceviches. The actual place is called Lucumma. I thought raw seafood to break my fast could be an interesting approach. They had a ceviche lunch menu combo, which seemed perfect for the situation. Continue reading

My modest attempt to solve the kidney filtration mystery…

Since I had the Indian food at Mumbai last week, I’ve been feeling amazing. Besides feeling amazing, my kidneys have been filtering regularly since. I have to admit that I am a bit lost trying in figuring out how kidney filtration works. In order to have a better understanding of the situation I decided to rewind the film of my life a bit,  and reflect on my actions and the nutrition I’ve been exposed to for the past weeks. Maybe that way I can get a better understanding of how kidney filtration has been working for me.Continue reading

Low Energy

I’ve been on a Sunday, Tuesday, Friday dry-fasting pattern for over a week now . On Friday my shift at work got cancelled. I was morally affected by the situation. When a shift gets cancelled, it means 50% less work for an entire week. I still don’t know if I’ll be able to make sustainable living with this work opportunity. In addition to the low morale, I had lower energy than usual. I tried to be productive during the morning. In the afternoon I decided to go to Palermo and do a long walk. I always have my e-book reader with me. When I get tired I usually read a chapter or two from the e-reader. I’m reading “The Stand” from Stephen King at the moment. I enjoyed my time in Palermo, the weather was partially cloudy and windy. As the clouds were passing in front of the sun, I would get or not get exposure to the sun. Moments with direct sunlight were out-winning the cloudy moments. I was able to spend over an hour at the “Plaza Armenia”. After completing several chapters of my book, I decided go back home to do more work on my own projects. I had low energy all day, and I had been feeling kind of tired. After making it back home, I was able to spend less than an hour on the computer. I decided to go to bed. It was only 7:00PM. I followed my instinct and went to bed. It was a bit hard at first to fall asleep on a Friday night in my neighborhood due to the noise coming from the street, but I somehow at one point managed to bed down.Continue reading

The After Breaking my Fast

It has been 34 hours since I’ve broken my nine day dry-fast. The post-fasting experience has been quite different and more challenging than the previous fasting experiences I had so far. I’ve been eliminating huge amount of cellular waste through urination. My urine has been extremely charged. At the end of my previous fasts I also experienced similar situations, but this time around, not only the amount of waste was considerable, but also my kidneys have been able to filter every single time I’ve been going to the bathroom.  I did not have any solid food so far. I’ve been running on freshly extracted juices. I went through at least 20 lemons, since I’ve broken my fast. I was finally able to find some organic ones at Alma Zen. In addition to the lemon juice, I prepared this pretty intense, yet extremely delicious green juice.Continue reading

Last Hours

Today is the day I am going to break my nine day dry-fast. In exactly one hour it’s going to be 216 hours that I haven’t had a drop of water nor solid food. I wasn’t planning on breaking the fast right at the 216 hour mark, but I just woke up naturally early this morning. It’s 3:00 AM now.Continue reading

24 Hours to Go

Today is the ninth and last day of my nine-day dry-fasting attempt. I will be breaking my fast tomorrow morning, so I still have 24 hours to go. Yesterday was a beautiful Sunday in Buenos Aires. I was able to sunbath, walk, and read for hours. Later on at night, I decided to go see an Argentine movie called Zama. After the movie was over, and I made it back home, my batteries seemed to be recharged with so much energy, that I was able to stay up until 4:00AM and do some work.Continue reading

Entering the Unknown Territory

Today is the eighth day of my nine-day dry-fasting attempt. I feel fine. I slept for twelve and a half hours. It was a bit difficult to fall asleep, but I woke up extremely well rested. From now on I’m entering in the unknown territory, since I have never dry-fasted for longer than seven and a half days in my life. I don’t feel thirsty, nor do I feel any dryness in my mouth. I’ve been urinating for about a big glass and a half everyday including today. My mind is extremely clear, but I feel physically slow.Continue reading

Day 6

I am on the sixth day of my nine-day dry-fasting attempt. I went to bed early last night, but still woke up later than usual. In terms of clarity of mind, I’ve been feeling great today, but physically I’ve been feeling a bit weak and slow. It was a perfect day for doing some reading, and slow walking. I started to feel tiny aches where some of my muscles are attached to my bones, especially at the level of my calves. I think it probably comes from the lack of liquid intake, this results in the body pulling water from wherever it can. I am getting excited, as I am approaching my record of seven and a half day of dry-fasting. I am really curious to experience the eighth and the ninth day. My capacity to adapt to dry-fasting has improved to the point where, I haven’t been feeling thirsty or hungry at all so far.Continue reading
