Trying to understand the moments when I’m not fasting

It has been a bit over two weeks since my last seven day dry-fasting experience. I ate regularly for about 2 weeks. On the first Sunday I had a 40 hour dry-fast. The following Sunday, meaning yesterday, I started a new fast. I’m not planning on breaking it after 40 hours this time. I’m planning on keeping going for a few days. The past couple weeks, I was able to observe that the periods when I am eating on a regular basis are not optimum. Most of the food I’m eating is raw and organic, but I feel like I’m eating way too much, and way many different things. This situation results in me having a lot of pleasure while feeding myself, but I can feel my body not functioning as well as when I’m fasting.Continue reading

Back to Eating Regularly

It has been almost a week since I broke my last seven day dry-fast. For about three days after breaking the fast I was able to maintain a mindset similar to the fasting one by drinking green juices, and eating raw. On the fifth day after completing the fast, I had a job interview, so I ate at this organic grocery store where I buy my some of my produce. Their food is pretty good, but probably not as healthy as my own preparations. I had a raw falafel, a cooked soup, and after eating all that food, I was still hungry. I decided to have one of their cheeseburgers. I guess it’s the healthiest type of cheeseburger you can find in Buenos Aires, but it still a cheeseburger.Continue reading

Defining my Core Practices

I started my healthier living attempt 17 months ago. During the first eight-month my approach was pretty radical. I had a quasi complete raw diet. I had kicked out completely alcohol, diary products, and cereals out of my life. After the eight-month period I decided to be more flexible, and allowed myself to eat traditionally cooked food. I started having a diet where once or twice a week, I would allow myself to eat out more often. I decided to not restrict myself, and follow my desires.Continue reading

My Second 7-day Dry-fasting Experience (day by day)

July 30th 2017

I just started a new seven day dry-fast. This is the second time I’m attempting a fast of this length. Yesterday was my birthday. It was a beautiful day in Buenos Aires. Despite winter time here in the southern hemisphere, the weather was warm with moments when I could see and feel the sun through the multiple thin layers of clouds. My main objective on my birthday was to enjoy the day as much as possible.  I decided to not do my regular daily warrior diet on this day. After my jog to the “Lago de Regatas” in “Parque de 3 de Febrero”. I had about 700ml of yellow beat, celery, fennel, apple, orange juice I had saved from the night before. I add garlic, ginger and curcuma to pretty much all my juices. After having my juice, I went out for lunch, and later at night I also had dinner. Probably not the best way to go into a seven day dry-fast, but at least all I ate was of plant origin.Continue reading

A week of Dry-Fasting ( 180 hours – 7 and 1/2 days)

I came to the realization that all my different fasting experiences are starting to add up. It feels a bit like practicing a sport. I have the feeling that each fasting period is making me be a bit stronger, and gives me a sense of advancement in a journey. Each iteration of fasting and non-fasting periods are adding to my experience of knowing my body a bit better. What I really like about fasting on a regular basis, is that it never feels the same. If I compare the first 24 hours into my very first dry fast, and the one I’m doing currently, it is a whole different experience. 24 hours into my very first dry-fast in April 2016, I had to lay down on my bed, because of an intense headache and dizziness. I wanted to fall asleep, but I couldn’t because of the pain. Whereas now, being 24 hours into the dry-fast, it’s just a regular day. I can do physical and intellectual work and be productive as usual. Sometimes I even feel better during fasting periods than some of my non-fasting moments.Continue reading

Different Fasting Patterns

I have the feeling that I’ve made some great progress since very first journal entry in April. (My very first journal entry: intro) For the past three months or so, the main progress I could observe has been in my ability to dry-fast longer periods of time, and more often. The months preceding April, I had already incorporated a 36 to 40 hour dry-fasting periods into my weekly routine. After I wrote my very first journal entry in April, the next step consisted in increasing the number of fasts of similar lengths, and have two of them per week. I started fasting on Thursdays and Sundays for a minimum of 36 hours. I did this for about five weeks. At each iteration, I would feel better, up to the point where my body started to ask for more consecutive fasting days.Continue reading
